The Thing About Being Healthy

"Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we shall die...or dine in hell, I forgot the line."

Everyone has their reasons for being health conscious. Certain illnesses running in the family, religious beliefs, personal principles, they feel the pain of pigs, et cetera ad infinitum. For whatever reasons a person's health is of high regard to them, that's their business.

But in this day and age of food-that's-like-food-but-it's-not-really-food, health conscious people are sometimes deemed to be health freaks. Oh I don't know, read the rest of the post if you will.

I saw a commercial before for sauce, I think? It displayed various succulent dishes of pork, beef, chicken and fish. And then the tag line was, "Not everything that glitters is gold." Cheeky. I like that gentle comedy.

It's true. Some of life's greatest pleasures can come from food-gasm at the taste of various dishes, sweets and everything delicioso. And life's too short to eat only the sugar-free and fat-free stuff and drink only wheat grass tea that would make you want to wash out its taste with something sweet. Don't even get me started on counting calories and spending countless hours at the gym. Seriously, in the famous words of Emma Stone, "Life's too short, so eat that damn red velvet cupcake!"

Au contraire.

One valuable lesson my mother taught me is that investing time and effort in your health at an early age can have profound positive effects when you get older. The food you eat, the drinks you take, the puffs of smoke you breathe in can have repercussions on your health when you get to an age wherein you can't walk without a walker.

It's a good thing to be health conscious, and not just for aesthetic reasons. It's something that can affect you in the long run. However, try to indulge yourself every once in a while, whether you're a vegetarian or a carnivore. Being aware of your body and health means valuing life and soy-milking her for all her worth. Desist calling all health-conscious people, "health freaks". Oh, the term is ever so degrading.

I wish I could write a more effective piece on health consciousness and one of vicissitudes and sincere thoughts on it. I myself am not a health-conscious person, nor do spend a lot of time exercising. I make sure to eat something healthy when I eat junk. I've finally cut out fast food. I try to sleep at a reasonable time. Cut back on alcohol and carbonated drinks. I only do the stuff I like doing at the gym (running and the thing that makes your legs go up and down). You know, a pseudo-healthy lifestyle that balances the good and evil and makes me not want to kill myself in the process.

Anyway, regardless of what you eat and the reasons for why you eat what you eat (pardon my redundancy), I think the main thing is to do what makes you happy. Otherwise, you can be as healthy as a horse but when you're a sad muck, all that health is good for nothing.

P.S. I love peanuts, oatmeal, chocolate, chop suey, shrimp and steak (well done).
